A dispatch from the road over morning coffee. Wonderful sold out concert last night in Vienna, Virginia, every seat spoken for, at this striking venue that consists of two historic reassembled barns. An inspiration for what we are trying to do with our own 140-year-old barn (on a somewhat smaller scale) in Ohio. Thanks to all who joined us. Oh what a night. Grateful. Yesterday was also made forever memorable thanks to a personal tour of NPR by the lovely Melissa Block. What a treat to meet people whose voices and storytelling and intelligence have been worthy companions for so many years. I think all songwriters have a special relationship to radio broadcasting, one of the few remaining mediums where everyone is called upon to make their own pictures while listening. Melissa Block, Scott Simon, Robert Siegel and Susan Stamberg should all be on radio's Mount Rushmore. Their work is meaningful and vital to the American conversation. Their dedication to their craft is evident everywhere. Inspiring. Today (Saturday) we roll to Annapolis and another favorite room for songmaking, Rams Head Tavern. We'll walk the narrow spring streets of this historic town, breathe some ocean air. Sunday is a very special stop in Freehold, New Jersey. Only 60 tickets total are available for this intimate matinee concert, replete with carry in dinner, and conversation with neighbors in a back yard. Worth the effort - come find us, we'll make room. That's the thing about following the songs, one can never be quite sure where they will lead. Raving onward, L&K
