BLOWIN' IN THE BLIZZARD
Over the Rhine has just returned from playing several dates
supporting the great Bob Dylan. Two OtR members opened for Dylan at
a Cleveland show last year which led to this month's Iowa and
Wisconsin dates. After the Dylan concerts they also played other
gigs in smaller clubs and had considerable radio airplay along the
way. The tour succeeded in giving the band, says guitarist Linford
Detweiler, "a new lust for life." This revelation was a result of a
fairly major accident the band was involved in while on the road in
a blizzard. Fortunately, no one was hurt and the only damage to the
instruments, says Detweiler, was a broken guitar knob. Their van,
however, was not so fortunate.
In better OtR news, Detweiler told EN that while waiting in a food
and beverage line backstage at one of the venues, a server asked
drummer Brian Kelley for his autograph, completely overlooking or
simply disinterested in Dylan himself, who was standing beside
Kelley.
