OVER THE RHINE GIVES SAMPLE OF ROCK SOUND
On the eve of the release of its album Eve on the IRS label,
Cincinnati rock group Over the Rhine performed a free concert Monday
evening at Seasongood Pavilion in Eden Park. Approximately 5000
people attended. Cars were parked as far as two and three miles away
from the venue with fans streaming in carrying blankets and picnics.
Cincinnati Post music writer Rick Bird has declared the new album,
which goes on sale today, one that "deserves to be recognized as one
of the year's best."
Bird characterizes the Over the Rhine sound as one that can soar
from a dreamy acoustic terrain to an infectious rock groove in a
flash.
Bird finds their lyrics are often mystical.
"Eve" is the band's second album on the IRS label.
Its first, "Patience," a self-produced effort, was pressed by IRS
after the band signed with the national label in 1993.
