Well Liza and to the rest of the residents of Orchard land---in more than 30 years of concert going--I have had a few memorable shows--for the most part--they all for the most part took place some years back: Randy Newman in Atlanta in the late 1970s, ditto for an Allman Brothers concert, a Marshall Tucker Band concert in Savannah in the late 1970s, Tift Merritt at Tall Stacks last October and now:
Over the Rhine--March 17, 2007 at Canal Street Tavern, Dayton, Ohio!!!!!
The band put on a good show on Friday but hoooooolllllyyyy cowwwwww!!!!!
Every element that could come together to make a live performance just incredible happened on this night--and it was not just me who said it---
Many if not most of the Apples in attendance agreed and the person whose opinion I trust most on this---was that of Mick Montgomery, owner/propreitor of the Canal Street Tavern and what he said about the show.
Mick and I were having a good conversation after the show and we both agreed that the show was just great--now Mick has run the CST since he opened the doors of the place back in 1981 and many great artists well known and no so well known have graced his stage, so he knows what of he speaks.
Mick broke our conversation to snag Liford and vigoursly shook Linford's hand--tellling Linford that Mick had many long time and new customers tell him that on their way out the door, they thought the show was incredible and Mick was one happy man----for a guy like Mick--happy customers is what he seeks and those customers were "happy, happy, happy!!!!!" (like Emeril Lagasse likes to say about great ingredients that make up a great dish) To have happy customers, makes a happy Mick!!
He also patted Linford on the shoulder too.
The elements that made this show so spectacular: Karin's voice was great thanks to perfectly mixed audio, there was this great energy vibe thing going on between and amongst the whole band and the back up musicians--Jake on guitars and stand up bass and Mickey on drums were both great....the selection of songs on the set list was a great overview of the band's music and the way each song was delivered--damn too bad this show was not recorded---it would have made its own great concert CD in and of itself!!!!!
I say that this show was a Dodge V-10 Hemi running at 125% on all ten cylinders and the road was a smokin'!!!!!!!
This show was nothing less than sublime----
I will be high for days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ahhh bois and girls-'twas a good St. Paddy's Day for this lad!!!!! One of the best St. Paddy's Days I've had in many a year ye lads and bonnie fair Lasses!!!Twas the Luck o' the Irish that blessed this house tonight, for nary have fairer sounds been heard by these ears!!!!!
Thanks Karin, Linford, Jake and Mickey!!!!!!
"Ya shoulda been there!!!!"
Oh--it was great to meet the apples I had the pleasure of meeting this weekend!!! Thanks to you guys too!!!
I will post up the set list for the show later too--got to get to bed--if
I can sleep!!!!!
