ChuckS:

I'd been meaning to get to this venue for some time, but until last night I didn't make it. It turned out to be a rather attractive complex nestled inside a park, along with a little art gallery and at least one other theatre. The brickwork on the front sides is cool, looking left, right or behind there are trees, and through a sizable gap between the roof and the backdrop there are more tree and a bit of sky. I'd guess it holds 2000-3000 counting the lawn area. Turnout wasn't the greatest, but those who were there made an ideal audience.

I've seen a wide variety of OTR lineups, from just Linford/Karin to seven- or eight-persom combos, and while I've enjoyed the duo shows, I generally prefer a more "complete" band. Things were rounded out very nicely indeed with the versatile Kenny Hutson adding just the right touch on guitar (Professional Daydreamer!), pedal steel (Cruel And Pretty!), dobro (Trouble!), and mandolin (All I Need Is Everything!), plus the affable rhythm section of Jake and Mickey. I'd seen Kim Taylor with OTR last December, and it was nice to see her again, especially on Born and Spark. I've seen Spark before, but not with her, and her contribution helped make it my favorite of the night. (Her own song, performed by just her and Karin, was also quite nice.) There was a nifty Johhny Cash cover, featuring tandem vocals by Karin and Kim, and a sort of "unplugged" version of All I Need Is Everything (Linford and Karin on acoustic guitar, Jake on acoustic bass, Kenny on mandolin, Kim on tambourine, Mickey playing a single tom) that was very refreshing. The new (I think) song sounded great with just Karin on keys and Linford on guitar.

Karin Bergquist - vocals, guitar, keyboards, percussion
Linford Detweiler - keyboards, bass, guitar, vocals
Jake Bradley - acoustic and electric bass, guitar
Kim Taylor - vocals, percussion, guitar
Kenny Hutson - guitar, pedal steel, , dobro, mandolin
Mickey Grimm - drums
