Hi all. I didn't write down the setlist so this will just be random memories about the show from the Soiled Dove in Denver. I think this is the best venue I've ever seen them at, it had the intimacy of Canal Street but none of that pub feel. It is exclusively a performance room. The band played as a four piece, sans drummer. They always find the right guitarist for each tour and this was no exception, his arsenal included the mandolin, pedal steel, and laptop steel guitar. One highlight was Ohio, which I've only seen done as a solo piece, this time Karin played it accompanied by bass & guitar which was a new twist to a familiar piece. This might have been the number when Linford played electric bass and the bassist played Chris Isaak style haunting riffs. The highlight of the night for me was a new number which she introduced simply as one which would be a duet on the album. It had a rolling melody similar to "Born" except that it really flowed. You know they write some great songs and this one was among the best they've ever done. I mean it, it was just beautiful and I'm really looking forward to this new album now. Other highlights of the show were "Rave On" (a song about a poem about a song), the one pre-Ohio song, "All I Need Is Everything," and "Who'm I Kidding but Me?" which really rocked. They also played "Suitcase," "Trouble," "No Kill Shelter," and ended the show with "Drunkard's Prayer" which I thought was a low note for the evening, but appropriate for the extra mellow venue.

Trudes:

Thanks for the review Bondibox.

I agree it was a great show and the venue is beautiful and just right! Seats are arranged around small cocktail tables and in a half-circle around the stage. The floor is tiered and there is even standing room around the back. There is virtually not a bad seat in the house. Each small cocktail table has a tiny 'call light' that you can switch on and a waiter will come and bring you your request, be it drinks or food from a bar menu. The band looked beautiful onstage.

The last time they were here, Karin had had a minor wardrobe malfunction (loose dress strap) and she commented on that. She said she again had a dress change before coming on stage this night and blamed the naughty ghosts! Maybe they were telling her something since the venue is called 'The Soiled Dove' which is an old-fashioned term for 'Ladies of the Evening'!

The music was superb. People at the venue sitting near me were commenting on how much they loved the band and wished they would be able to see them more often. Some people had been to the songwriting seminar in Santa Fe which is not too far from Denver and Karin's cousin who lives in Denver was also there so the audience had many familiar faces as well as new fans. K&L stuck around to chat with fans after the show.
Bill, I collected my hug from Karin and Linford....and Jake and Kenny as well.
I hope they come to CO frequently...we love them!
