Other than the welcome resurrection of When I Go, the set list was pretty much the same as Lexington and Coney Island a couple of weeks ago. There was a cheat sheet with the lyrics for Mrs. Robinson on the floor of the stage, which they never performed. I don't know what caused them to change their minds, but I didn't mind at all! smile.gif Karin totally nailed the vocal, Linford was bluesy and soulful on the keys, and Rick Plant came up with a blistering guitar solo to boot. A hair-raising performance of Firefly and a wonderfully intimate Hush Now (which had the rowdy NYC crowd nearly silent for three minutes) were the other big highlights for me. Jack's Valentine was lots of fun too.
Unfortunately Kim Taylor only played a few songs, following a singer from Milwaukee named Stephanie Dosen who opened the show with 7 or 8 interesting songs of her own. Kim just could not get her cheap overgrown ukelele to stay in tune for the Star Spangled Banner, and she finally gave up after a couple of false starts and played it with her other acoustic. It was pretty funny.
OtR didn't finish playing 'til midnight, and yesterday my boss assigned
me the daunting task of estimating Katrina's impact on our business for
the rest of the year by 5:00 tonight, so sadly I couldn't stick around
to say hi to K&L. But I'll see them in Northampton tomorrow
