Bill Ivester:

this was a beautiful and interesting performance. it was sold out fund raising event for the ballet and (apparently) attended by cincinnati's high rollers and art patrons (@ $150 per ticket), but they were very in tune with the performance and an appreciative and supportive crowd.

i will qualify this info with; my knowledge of ballet and dance in general is limited to my daughter's taking of lessons and her recitals from the age of four to sixteen. so in short, i ain't no expert. but to this, unskilled, untrained eye, it was very well done, beautiful and somewhat bold ad imaginative performance across the board. and the touch of live music made it even more enjoyable. my take on the night, based on the genre of music, style of dance and "new works" title is that this is an effort to expand their audience to a younger, hipper and more diverse audience.

karin performed "professional daydreamer" and "ohio" solo on a steinway grand that was located on the right rear of the dance floor, and as usual, she nailed it. they were wonderful due to the simplicity and sparseness of the arrangement and her voice was powerful and spectacular. the dance piece was written specifically for these songs by missy lay zimmer and andrew hubbard and struck me more as modern dance than traditional ballet, but it worked beautifully and was a sight to see.

the lighting was extremely low to fit with the theme of the dance.
