a great, fun show on the banks of the ohio last night. the band came out about 6:45 as scheduled and played about an hour long set that started right around around twilight, just as the sun was setting over the city's skyline in the background and ended just as fireworks started exploding overhead and lighting up the river. could it have been timed better? and it was packed, i have no clue how many, but i would say there had to be several thousand on the lawn and overflowing into the walkways, it was packed and surprisingly for such a large crowd, very quiet, respectful and appreciative. i can't imagine that anyone left disappointed.
we got OtR with upright bass (jake bradley), a "new," amazing drummer, mickey grimm (he has been recording the new record with them), paul patterson, a mandolin/violin/banjo player from, as karin said, a "little local group" known as the cincinnati symphony orchestra and a 3 piece horn section led by brent gallaher (who played on drunkard's prayer). pretty damn cool stuff. and a lot of fun.
they played for a little over an hour, sounded great, we got a few of the new songs they have been playing recently. much fun was had and as usual, great music played and heard.
