Leaving work early, so we could make the OtR show in Madison, we drove the 3.5 hours drive through the beautiful, and starting to be very colorful, rolling hills of Wisconsin. We met up with our good friends from Rockford,IL Bob and Karen, for a dinner and drinks.
The show was later, 9PM, in the beautiful Majestic Theatre in downtown, with the Wisconsin State Capitol looming very close nearby. I got in the lineup early and met a few new OtR fanatics, including Rebecca , and aspring singer who is inspired by Karin, plus I came across some people I've met the past 2 years at shows down there. We had seats in the opera boxes along the side, that looked down almost on top of the stage. with Kenny Hutson's father passing away, he could not make the trip, so they had to refine the music they have been playing to fit the 4 piece band for this 3 city tour. (Milwaukee was Thursday night). So as Karin said, they were one man down.
Vienna Teng was the opener and she played a real nice set. I had not
really heard much of her music, and enjoyed it very much. She used a looper
with most of her songs, which made it sound like she almost had a band
behind her. Then OtR came on, and played an inspired set that included
a Kenny Hutson request that they play Angel Band at all 3 venues of this
mini-tour. Over the Rhine is definitely loved in Madison.
