This was one of those shows where you wish the place was half-full
of reviewers. Rosie Thomas opened, and I'm sad to say I wasn't familiar
with her music before now - she's hilarious and has a great voice. Ended
up buying a CD (and an apron for my wife). As for OtR, they were ON and
having a blast as usual. Too bad there were some loud so-and-so's in the
back for the first part of the show. Juicy's wife made it down for the
night, Mickey went nuts on the drums, a good time was had by all.
DVDRE:
It was a magical night for me. I brought 4 friends - 3 of them had
never heard of OtR before, basically, and the other had been to an OtR
concert with me last year. We got a pretty good table. The Visulite is
a very cool place, but the setup doesn't provide great sight lines. And
I thought Karin's mike was too hot and it was breaking on her loudest voicings.
Those problems aside, the show was near perfect. I love the Trumpet Child
songs, and we heard a lot of them. A few oldies were mixed in. Yes, the
Visulite is a bar, and there were some goof-offs talking loudly at times.
But in reality, the crowd was extremely focused and extremely appreciative.
There was an explosion of cheers after every song.
