Went alone on Monday, and Jake Bradley was the only person in the room
that I actually knew. So weird - at a lot of shows, I know at least a handful
of people, but at Over the Rhine shows, I barely know anybody. The place
was packed, and since I didn't reserve a table, I was stuck sitting at
the corner of the bar. Luckily, I had a good view, but was too far back
to get any good photos. The sound was good, though.
The band was very loose (in a good way - they sounded fine, musically). Lots of joking, a fairly raucous crowd, the K&L cussed more than I've ever heard them on stage, and I've never laughed so much at an Over the Rhine show. Rosie Thomas was also enjoyable and funny as the opener, though she didn't do her "Shiela" schtick that was so bizarrely amusing at Cornerstone.
Favorite line (Karin): "We get more professional as the week goes on."
Setlist:
I Don't Want to Waste Your Time

I didn't LOVE the setlist, but I enjoyed the show as much as I've ever enjoyed an Over the Rhine show, oddly enough.
Tuesday night, back for more of the same. I sat in the same place, and my girlfriend was with me this time. Largely different crowd, though there were a few repeat offenders. The band was a little less jokey, but still pretty loose. They really seem to be having a lot of fun. Karin, in particular, seems to be enjoying herself. She's always facially expressive, but now she's doing more gesturing with her hands, letting out little yelps and yells off-mic, banging on a cookie sheet, etc. It's hard to describe, but she just seems a lot more energetic, like she's having a lot more fun, for some reason. I think having Jake and Mickey in the band has maybe loosened things up a bit.
I noticed that they even change up their solos (keyboard, bass, drums) and jams a little bit from night to night. "Don't Wait for Tom" was a good bit different the second night, as were the solos in "Who'm I Kiddin' But Me" and "Trumpet Child."
Favorite line of the night: Linford's Mennonite mom apparently refers to the practice of modern churches singing songs from overhead projectors as "off the wall singing."
Setlist: (7 different songs, and 2 more than the night before, IIRC)
