Friday's show was good, but certainly not OTR's best.

What was REALLY good in my opinion was Karin's dedication of a new song she has written for Linford (for his belated B-day). The song was freakin' GREAT!!!!! She is a torch singer of the highest caliber. The song might as well be on an Etta James or Billie Holiday or (now) Diana Krall disc!

It was a good night at the ol' Canal Street Tavern full of seeing old friends and hearing the "best band you've never heard of" in the best venue to hear them in.

It was too bad that Kim Taylor was sick, but even so, the band sounded pretty good and a good night was had by all. We even had a couple of strange dancing/ballerina girls to watch for some of the show.

I'm really looking forward to tonight and Sunday. I've never attended all 3 of the Canal Street trifecta before, so it should be interesting to see how the sets change.

Finally, I'm just warning you, but be prepared to dance yourself tonight if your going to the Saturday night show. You'll see! wink.gif But, when Karin says "get up and dance", be prepared to outshine the Friday night crowd. Karin's pride is on the line here!

Cheers! And hopefully see you tonight!

Notes: "Firefly" was on the setlist in the second set, but was replaced with "Hometown Boy." Karin had "Latter Days" written in as the last song of the encore but it was not played. The first set ended with Karin doing a new song solo on acoustic guitar, listed as "Trouble" on her setlist.

Saturday's official set list:

I Want You To Be My Love
Little Blue River/In The Garden
What I'll Remember Most
Etc. Whatever
Spark
I Radio Heaven

Trouble (just Karin)

Firefly
B.P.D./Lifelong Fling
Looking Forward
Little Did I Know
Jack's Valentine
Changes Come

Only God Can Save Us Now
Moondance
When I Go

I believe they actually played everything (and in order) from set 1. Set 2 didn't have B.P.D. Jack's Valentine was replaced by My Love Is A Fever (if my memory isn't failing me now), and I know Only God Can Save Us Now & When I Go were not done in the encore, but Faithfully Dangerous was.

Sunday's official list:

Born
What I'll Remember Most
Suitcase
Etc. Whatever
Bluer
Spark
Little Did I Know
Nobody #1
Show Me
Trouble (Karin only)

Fairpoint Diary
Lookin' Forward
Hometown Boy
Firefly
B.P.D.

Hush Now
When I Go

Everything was played in order through Firefly, then I Radio Heaven was substituted for B.P.D., and for the encores, we got Only God Can Save Us Now (Karin solo) and Drunkard's Prayer instead of the two listed.

Hello everyone. Complete newbie to the boards here.

Saw my very first OTR last night at Dayton's Canal Street Tavern. All I can say is "Wow." I was moved to tears, laughter, and felt joy, sadness, and more mysterious things moving inside me as I listened and watched.

I've "tried" OTR previously - borrowing their CDs from the library. At the time, they didn't click. The music felt too level, too much the same. I'd read that in order to really "get" the band, you have to see them live.

Since that that time, I've heard a few songs that HAVE clicked with me - notably "Go Down Easy" and "Born." GDE is especially meaningful to me. Thankfully, I was able to attend the show last night (first set only, though) and I now can say I "get it."

With my SO, I'm now planning on attending the 12/17 show at the Taft in Cincy (bought tickets online this morning) and I'm really looking forward to it. From the looks of it, the Taft holds about 10x the amount of folks as Canal Street, which in some ways is too bad. I loved being close to the band, and revelled in the more intimate atmosphere of a small venue.

On our way out last night, we were able to say hello and thanks to Rick and Devon (sp?). Two great guys, and very gracious in letting us talk with them briefly.
