It was a small but exceptionally enthusiastic audience last night in the lovely and intimate Kate Hepburn Theater on a snowy Saturday night in Old Saybrook. The band responded very palpably to the energy, delivering one of the most spellbinding performances I've ever witnessed. Vienna Teng was also in amazing form. Thanks to the graciousness of the artists, Colm O'Riley (their engineer) and the venue's management, I was able to capture very good recordings of both sets and look forward to sharing them in their entirety. For now, here's a taste.
It was a real pleasure to share the evening with my old PattyPal®
Gerry (who's become an avid OtR fan since seeing them play in Ridgefield
last summer) and Randy from Rhode Island, who drove hundreds of miles to
attend three of their shows this week. Between the two of them, we'll have
some amazing photos to go along with the music!
romma:
This was my first OTR show. I have wanted to see them ever since I
learned about them three years ago now. Last year I wanted to see them
at Ridgefield Park but it did not work out.
Anyhow, Vienna Teng openend and was great. After hearing about how talented
Alex Wong Is a musician, and only having clips from youtube to form an
opinion from, I had to see for myself.
Let me say, phenominal! And Vienna was lit up so the two were amazing
together working in sync.
Okay, OTR:
After intermission, OTR pounced onto the stage with no introduction and went right to work. They seemed a little weary at first if not uncomfortable even. Though they sounded good, it looked like it took a while for the funk to wear off. By the end of Drunkards Prayer, ease was setting in among all the members.
Great set list, all though I want You To Be My Love was sorely missing. The Sound system was superb, and I cannot wait for Keith to release this whole show so I can have an amazing keepsake.
Highlights of the show for me was "Etc Whatever", and "Don't wait for Tom". DWFT had the crowd yelling, and there was one crazy rabid OTR Fan that brought a cookie sheet for Karin to hit, but Karin wanted to stick with hers. That crazy woman was seen banging away on the cookie sheet during the song.
Hurry back to CT OTR!!
